Briolayt elektriks upgrades a project management system

On February 19, 2014 the ALV Group company announced completion of works in Briolayt Elektriks company in the project of upgrade of the project management system created on the Microsoft SharePoint Foundation platform.

Project Tasks

The Briolayt Elektriks company unrolled a project management system for small business on the Microsoft SharePoint Foundation platform in July, 2013. A system was actively used by the staff of the company for production management owing to what amount of data increased, stored in SharePoint – first of all the project documentation (plans, drawings, 3D models, files of AutoCAD, etc.).

In half a year of operation amount of data approached SharePoint Foundation limit. The overload of SQL Server began to affect efficiency of other production applications working with this base negatively. The company appeared before a dilemma – to artificially limit the volume and types of the data loaded into SharePoint, reducing efficiency of a system, or to refuse SharePoint Foundation and to spend additional resources for purchase more powerful program and hardware.

In this situation specialists of ALV Group suggested Briolayt Elektriks company to use the special tool of Metalogix StoragePoint allowing to take out files of large volume (so-called binary large objects or BLOB objects) out of limits of a SQL Server database at full save of an opportunity for work with them from the SharePoint environment. During a pilot project the volume of test base is reduced from 1.5 GB to 25 MB without reduction in the rate of work with information that confirmed a basic possibility of solution with the offered method.

Project Results

After deployment of Metalogix StoragePoint in the full-function mode the extent of production base managed to be reduced from 5 GB to 150 MB, at the same time users continued to work with them from the SharePoint-applications without performance penalty. The efficiency of IT infrastructure in general increased.

As a result the volume of the base used by SharePoint for document storage was reduced approximately by 33 times that led to fall forward of operation of applications, to reduction of time of copying and allowed to avoid additional expenses.
