On October 22, 2019, Smart Engines announced that Croatia Airlines automated and accelerated the process of registering passengers in a mobile application using Russian computer vision technology developed by Smart Engines specialists. The integrator of passport recognition technology was the German company "2e Systems," specializing in web solutions, mobile communication services and communication solutions for aviation.

Croatia Airlines (Croatia's national airline, part of Star Alliance) has released an updated mobile application with an implemented AI-based document recognition module that brings the ticket purchase and passenger registration service to another level of quality. The introduced recognition technology of Smart Engines accelerates the passenger registration process by scanning the machine-readable zone (MRZ) of the passport. It is enough to put the smartphone camera on the document, and within 2 seconds the system automatically detects the location of the machine-readable zone, recognizes it and extracts the necessary data to complete the questionnaire. During operation, the technology secures the operation of personal data by performing all calculations on the end device of the user.

The remote sale of tickets and check-in for flights is always the entry of data of the certifying document. In addition to scanning documents in the application, passengers can also check the status of their flight in real time; simply specify the airline or airport flight number. An updated version of the Croatia Airlines application is available for download in the App Store and Google Play in English, German, French and Croatian.
