Tips for waiter in Russia can now be transferred by bank card

2019: Start of service of cashless payment of a tip

On July 31, 2019 JSC Russky Standart Bank reported that together with VISA started service of cashless payment of a tip at Daily Bread restaurant.

This service uses technology of card transfers and helps to improve consumer experience of Russians in the field of public catering due to expansion of application of electronic payments.

Service implements additional opportunities of use of card transfers which Visa develops worldwide. The technology which is their cornerstone allows to perform more and more different business scenarios from which the most widespread examples is money transfer from the card to the card. The feature of work of the presented solution is that the amount of a tip intended to write-off is included in joint account at restaurant or cafe and goes directly to the waiter.

Service works on the basis of a language translation technology of money from the card for the card. For payment of a tip the client does not need to install any application or to pay the commission. The waiter suggests to enter the amount of gratitude for service then the guest pays with one contact of the card at the same time both the order, and a tip. The visitor of restaurant enters the amount of a tip after at payment on the terminal the order amount appears.

Remuneration is transferred to the personal e-wallet of the waiter and passes as the deed of gift that under the law is not taxed. This purse can be created in a personal account of Russian Standard bank. Then they can be transfered to the Visa card of any bank. However, Russian Standard takes for it the commission — about 5%. The maximum amount of a tip on service will be limited by 20% of the amount of the account.

The Head of Department of acquiring Vtbaleksey Kirichek says that such transactions it is much safer and more convenient for clients. 

The director of digital marketing of Daily Bread restaurant Alexey Panov told that about 70% of clients pay off with the card and for a tip they just have no cash.

Declared determination to start similar service in several other large banks, including VTB. Service is going to start in all restaurants of Daily Bread network, new partners not only from restaurant business, but also beauty shops or hotels will be attracted.[1]

According to data of Visa which were published at the end of July, 2019, expenses of visitors of cafe and restaurants in Russia for the last three years grew almost by 40%.
