On August 31, 2022, Samsung announced that it had been selected by various public and private institutions in South Korea to provide private 5G infrastructure. It is part of a government initiative to expand the presence of private 5G ecosystems in the country.
The South Korean government is allowing non-telecommunications operators to build private 5G networks using 4.7 GHz and 28 GHz frequency bands. Samsung provides its private 5G solutions to institutions in various sectors, including power, governance, medical education, health services, security and water.
In the public sector, Samsung will provide private 5G networking solutions to three major government agencies: Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), Korea Industrial and Industrial Corporation (KICOX) and Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-water). In the private sector, the company will offer its infrastructure to Ewha Women's University Mokdong Hospital and Samsung Medical Center.
Samsung's solution for the private 5G network includes Compact Macro, Compact Core and radio stations (supporting 4.7 GHz and 28 GHz bands). They are able to provide improved uplink performance and increase the load factor to 40%. This allows multiple devices to load huge amounts of data at the same time.
Yong Chang, vice president of global sales and marketing for Samsung Electronics' Networks Business unit, said: Private 5G networks will enable progressive change across all industries. Applications such as digital doppelgangers, autonomous vehicles, artificial intelligence and virtual reality are just a fraction of the many 5G use cases that will bring Samsung to life.[1] |
