Construction companies began using drones to control the volume of soil loaded onto the barge

Customers: Penta-Ocean Construction

Construction and Construction Materials Industry

Contractors: ACSL

Project date: 2024/05

On May 24, 2024, the Japanese construction company Penta-Ocean Construction announced the introduction of a new automated system for controlling the volume of soil loaded onto the barge. To carry out these works, the company began to use a specially equipped drone manufactured by ACSL.

It is noted that during the construction of breakwaters and berths, contractors need to control the amount of crushed stone, sand and other materials loaded onto barges to manage the scope of work. Typically, four to six employees perform these tasks using probes and other equipment. The data collection process takes an average of about 20 minutes, after which the necessary documents need to be generated. If the barge is not near the shore, it must be reached by boat, as a result of which the process of performing assessment work is delayed to an hour or more. The new drone-based system eliminates existing difficulties.

Penta-Ocean Construction used the ACSL-PF2 drone to automate the process. The drone is equipped with an optical camera, a lidar-based 3D scanner and a 4G/LTE mobile module. Flying over the barge, the device almost in real time records the volume of loaded materials - the entire process takes only about 5 seconds. After that, an automatic calculation is carried out with filling in the necessary electronic forms. The implemented approach allows you to save time and resources, and also eliminates the influence of the human factor when estimating the volume of materials loaded on the barge.

It is also noted that ACSL develops industrial drones for various areas, such as infrastructure inspection, disaster prevention, geodesy and agriculture. Drones help solve the problem of labor shortages and increase the efficiency of certain processes.[1]
