On August 1, 2025, the Chinese company EHang Holdings Limited, in partnership with Wanyi Tianxia (Zhuhai) Aviation, announced the organization of long-range cargo transportation using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Drones are planned to be used to deliver urgent supplies, such as fresh food and pharmaceuticals.
The project involves EHang V24L class eVTOL drones - electric vehicles with vertical take-off and landing. Intercity flights are carried out back and forth along the route Zhuhai - Guangzhou in the area of the Greater Bay of Guangdong - Hong Kong - Macau.
InIn the first mission, the EHang V24L drone took off from the UAV logistics operations center at the port of Tanjiagan in Zhuhai with fresh seafood on board before landing at the port of Suigan in Guangzhou. On a return flight, the drone delivered samples of medical research from the Yongkang Daan laboratory. It is noted that the flight range in one direction is about 83 km: it takes 55 minutes to overcome such a UAV path. This greatly improves the efficiency of logistics between Guangzhou and Zhuhai, saving up to 40 minutes compared to road transport on unloaded roads and more than an hour when driving in traffic jams.
A regular drone delivery route between Tanjiagan Port and Guishan Island in Zhuhai was previously opened, reducing transport times by about 80% compared to traditional freight traffic.
Together with EHang and other partners, Wanyi Tianxia aims to create a new type of logistics corridor connecting coastal islands and central cities. We will continue to study additional intercity routes to form an air delivery network, "says Qizheng Zhu, CEO of Wanyi Tianxia.[1] |
