Kaluga plant begins production of electric power steering for Lada

On February 9, 2023, the Kaluga Avtoelectronics plant announced that it was starting production of electric power steering (EURU) for Lada.

As noted in the press service of Avtoelectronics, a prototype electric power steering for Lada Vesta was sent to AvtoVAZ. It will be used to debug technological assembly on the auto giant conveyor in Togliatti. By February 9, 2023, the company is preparing production for serial production of EURU.

Avtoelectronics is one of the few domestic developers and manufacturers of electric power steering for Russian cars. The company has been on the market since 1990, and has been working with AvtoVAZ since 2007. Also in the list of its partners are GAZ, KamAZ, PAZ and UAZ.

The capacities of the Kaluga enterprise are designed to produce 15 thousand products per month, but  the plant plans to develop production of up to 20-25 thousand products per month , taking into account the VAZ line and other domestic automakers. Options for entering  other markets are also being considered.

Another domestic enterprise, the Dagestan Aviation Unit, is also working on EURU for Lada. In early February 2023, it was reported that prototypes were sent to AvtoVAZ. In the near future, they will be tested on Lada Granta, which continue to produce without power steering due to a shortage, writes the publication "Motor" on February 10, 2023.

Vladimir Mizevich, Deputy General Director of AvtoVAZ, told TASS in 2022 that AvtoElektronika will launch the production of electric steering boosters for Lada Vesta. Then he pointed out that the Japanese company NSK produces EURU for Lada Vesta.

Produced by AvtoVAZ Kalina, Granta, Priora and Datsun have direct-acting electric amplifiers - without a gearbox. Lada Vesta is a car that has large weight and size indicators,  and a direct-action amplifier is not suitable for it, here specialists have already had to find a solution based on geared amplification, - noted Mizevich.[1]
