2020: Galaxy XCover Application

On December 11, 2020, it became known that the German organization Evangelische Sozialstation Karlsruhe uses the Samsung Galaxy XCover 4 to equip visiting teams providing home care. Secure smartphones use 50 employees. They are needed by specialists to enter patient information into the system, and with the help of them, employees can quickly get up-to-date reference data for work. On the devices you can find all the necessary information on customer care, such as diseases and diagnoses, as well as contact details of treating doctors, pharmacies and relatives. In addition, at the beginning of the working day, medical staff receives travel plans on smartphones and uses devices for navigation and communication with colleagues.

As explained, employees of the organization help older people, as well as patients with dementia and disability. Staff spend 90% of their working time in customer homes or on the go, and smartphones allow them to stay mobile.

The transition to digital solutions was necessary due to the need to quickly enter patient information (medication, bandage change, injections, personal hygiene, home care or counselling services) into the database. For these purposes, Evangelische Sozialstation Karlsruhe medical staff began to use smartphones in their work back in 2015.

In 2017, representatives of the organization decided to switch to Samsung Galaxy XCover 4 smartphones. An important criterion in choosing was a large screen for good viewing and a powerful battery, which will be enough for six to eight hours during the working day. Samsung Galaxy XCover 4 is equipped with a 5.0 display. It combines the IP682 certification and the MIL-STD 810G3 standard and is protected from dust and water and withstands a drop from a height of 1.2 meters. You can also work with it in gloves.

As part of the deployment of the solution, a training course was conducted for employees on the Euregon application, the software used by Evangelische Sozialstation Karlsruhe for data collection.

In addition to the technical characteristics of the organization, the level of data protection was also important. This is due to the fact that the smartphone has become a tool for document management and accounting, where specialists record all services that are later billed to insurance companies. In addition, thanks to a mobile solution, medical staff and company management can access documentation in different places at the same time. Therefore, access should be regulated and reliable, and representatives of the clinic should be able to remotely delete data on the device immediately in the event of a loss of a smartphone.

Kai Käßhöfer, managing director of Evangelische Sozialstation Karlsruhe, found Samsung Knox's built-in software solution suitable for these tasks. Combining hardware and software measures at multiple levels, the solution offers active protection to capture potential threats from malware and viruses. It also integrates with existing IT infrastructure and device management. For example, updates can be installed remotely and data erased in case of loss.
