The Russian company Grand Toys operating in the field of production and sales of the wide range of children's toys completed a pilot project of implementation of family of software products for management and protection of IBM Tivoli Endpoint Manager workstations.
Background
The computer Grand Toys park contains more than 1200 PCs distributed on offices and production sites. Long time to administrators was necessary to perform installation and software updating in the manual mode, to configure the OS settings, to connect printers and to eliminate different faults. To cut down expenses on maintenance and to increase efficiency of IT specialists, it was required to provide automation and the centralized accomplishment of these routine procedures.
Solution
After the analysis of the products presented at the market a choice was made for benefit of IBM Tivoli Endpoint Manager. Already during testing of the free version of the product unrolled at 30 workstations it was succeeded to reduce labor costs by the organization of protection against the malware several times.
Now in three divisions of the company from seven the products Tivoli Endpoint Manager (modules Core Protection, Patch Management and Lifecycle Management) are implemented. A system is unrolled approximately at 400 workstations. In two months the project is going to be completed in full.
Expectations
The company management considers increase in efficiency of IT service the most significant project deliverable. The specialist who serviced 80 PCs earlier copes with administration of 150 workstations now. In the future with expansion of scales of software implementation and building of number of ready instruments of automation of routine procedures this indicator will repeatedly raise. In the long term cost value of maintenance of all PC park should be reduced by 25 times. It means that the means saved due to reduction of operating costs can be aimed at business development.

"The value of Tivoli Endpoint Manager is that it allows to get rid of problems preventively. Having established the cause of the incident on one PC and having found a fault repair method, IT specialists can protect in read minutes from emergence of the same problems all other PCs in the company. For the first two months of use of a system three cases of invasion of viruses are revealed, their mass distribution is on a centralized basis stopped and errors in OS which allowed malware to get on computers are corrected. Thanks to IBM Tivoli implementation only in one of divisions the number of incidents and, respectively, a downtime of workstations, was reduced approximately by 30%" — Dmitry Chernyshev, the Chief information officer of Grand Toys claims.
