On January 17, 2020 Huawei Technologies and TomTom announced the beginning of cooperation within which the Chinese company begins to use solutions of the Dutch partner in the smartphones. This transaction of Huawei continues to reduce dependence on Google in the conditions of pressure from the American authorities.
The authorities USA prohibited Huawei to install on new phones the official version Android from Google and also services, including Google Maps. Now Huawei at creating applications for smartphones will use maps, information on a situation on roads and the navigation software from TomTom. It is supposed that these solutions will find application in to the operating system Huawei Harmony OS.
The representative of TomTom Remco Meerstra in a conversation with Reuters reported that the transaction was closed some time ago, but officially was announced it on January 17. Meerstra refused to provide more detailed information on the agreement.
The Chinese company develops own ecosystem of Huawei Mobile Services which basis is the HMS Core platform. She turns on 24 tools for application programming. The main are an instrument of authorization Account Kit, cartographic library Map Kit (where geodata of TomTom are used), access to the cloud Drive Kit set, the payment Wallet Kit tools and also the systems of shopping in applications, Push-notifications, analytics, advertizing monetization of applications, etc.
TomTom displaced a vector of the development, having passed from sale of devices to development of software products and provision of services. Within this strategy the company got rid of telematic division to focus on development of the direction connected with digital maps.[1]
