The new storage system is implemented into the companies "Leaked"

IBM corporation together with the Center of Implementation Leaked completed the project of consolidation of the platform of data storage based on IBM XIV storage systems, for the environment of testing and development of the ERP system in PROTEK company.

Basis for the project

Growth of business of customer company and implementation project of a new ERP system on the scale of all offices, branches and regional representative offices led to significant increase in loading including on the environment of testing and development which should provide transfer to production operation of all automated business applications of the company. It caused the beginning of the project of creation of a test environment which will be transferred afterwards from the mode of a test system to production.

Solution

Before project implementation as the platform for testing and development storage systems of several producers were used. The management of IT department of PROTEK company faced difficulties of management of growth in heterogeneous infrastructure of storage and also the organization of infrastructure under the environments Development, T&D, Q&A and ensuring effective transition of a test environment in produktiv. With respect thereto, specialists of PROTEK company decided to hold testing of a new system.

Implementation

Testing of functionality and performance of IBM XIV is carried out in two steps. Within the first stage specialists of the companies jointly tested functionality of a system in interaction with servers of IBM. Then for the customer remote testing of performance of the maximum system configuration of XIV set in competence center on storage systems of IBM in Mainz was held. The profile of test loading was set by the customer and corresponded to the current level of loading of DWH of the productive PROTEKA systems. Within the experiment the storage system of IBM XIV met all stated requirements of the customer for performance, including stress testing at failure of separate components – one or several disks and the whole module. At all a stress tests falling of performance was insignificant values concerning behavior of traditional platforms. At failure of the whole module (12 disks and 8 GB a cache memory, 1 processor) under loading falling of performance was about 25%. Recovery time under productive loading of one terabyte disk was less than 30 min.

Results

The first delivery of XIV is made in an initial configuration - 27 TB available spaces and 48 GB a cache memory. Then the company made upgrade of the solution within the second system in configuration 79 TB of available space and 120 GB a cache memory. The storage system of IBM XIV is implemented and a proinstallirovana specialists of IBM together with experts of the Center of Implementation Leaked.

Expectations

The high-performance hardware complex based on storage systems of IBM XIV will allow PROTEK company to increase qualitatively the speed and efficiency of creation of the test environments and development environments necessary for successful implementation of resellersky programs of promotion and start of new products.
