Rosseti and SAP created a blockchain prototype for management of settlement with consumers

On December 26, 2019 the SAP company announced that it together with "Rosseti the Urals" provided a prototype of the solution for settlement between participants of power market. The pilot is developed based on SAP Cloud Platform using blockchain technology. The purpose of creation of a system - increase in transparency of calculations between consumers, the network and sales companies and also reduction of debts for services in electric power transmission.

As a pilot zone one of districts of the city of Yekaterinburg where in several apartment houses 250 metering devices are installed was selected. Meter readings were taken each 30 minutes, information in the online mode came to the distributed register.

In a prototype process of the conclusion of the smart contract by the consumer is implemented, thereby the consumer accepts terms of the contract about power supply. The smart contract, it agrees to the rates put in it, in real time calculates an amount due according to the consumed electric power, and at the time of payment by the consumer the payment is split on the network and sales companies at once.

Confirmation of a possibility of application of blockchain technology for the purpose of increase in trust in retail market of the electric power and also reduction of arrival time of payments in a chain from the consumer to the supplier became a project deliverable. Time of approval of volumes of the consumed electric power and receiving payment by the network company from the consumer could be several weeks, thanks to a blockchain, information arrives in the online mode, remains invariable in the distributed register and is available as the sales, network company, and the consumer.

In the power industry there is no common information space for data exchange about electricity consumption. It becomes the reason of disagreements between market participants and also opaque settlement between consumers, the managing, sales and network companies. Together with PJSC Rosseti we made the project which solves a current problem of retail market of the electric power by calculations between its participants. Increase in transparency and speed of settlement with consumers can become its result, at the same time the blockchain guarantees security of data at all stages. In addition, process of collection of information about energy consumption considerably becomes simpler, and the number of participants of process is reduced. In case of large-scale distribution the technology can cardinally change the existing market of settlement with consumers of the electric power, – Dmitry Pilipenko, the deputy CEO of SAP CIS notes
