The Russian company Utech, a manufacturer of engineering products and a supplier of integrated solutions for large-scale construction and industrial projects, has built an import-independent data warehouse based on domestic products. The basis was the universal DBMS PostgreSQL from Arenadata and the data streaming service Arenadata Streaming. The press service of Arenadata announced this in November 2025.
A large-scale import substitution project started in Utech in the spring of 2024. Previously, the company used SAP BW/4HANA as a data engine, as well as SAP Analytics Cloud and Power BI to visualize reports. The main task was to preserve the functionality of the previous systems, taking into account the current requirements of the Russian market and open technologies.
Dmitry Kuzentsov, Senior Project Reporting Manager at Utech, noted that support, training and reliability of the system were key factors in finding domestic solutions. The company focused on the recommendations of a proven distributor, as well as on the experience of a multinational company - one of the world leaders in the field of consumer goods.
After a detailed study of the specifications, Utech specialists implemented a new data model that reflects both the existing SAP HANA and containing new current data objects. The team created integration and ETL data streams to transport information to the new platform.
The storage architecture is based on the Data Vault 2.0 model. Source data from sources is collected in the staging layer - the layer of raw data entering the storage. This calculates the layers of the data model and prepares the displays for the end users of the system.
The data warehouse serves 350 to 400 business users from the Sales, Manufacturing, Logistics, Finance and Human Resources departments. The amount of data ranges from 300 to 500 gigabytes, which is associated with a limited transaction rate and a large amount of reference data in the system.
