The national company Қazaқstan temіr Zholy (KTZ) has announced the introduction of industrial robots for inspecting railways and performing minor repairs. This project became known on February 21, 2025 following a meeting between the chairman of the board of KTZ Nurlan Sauranbayev and the head of Huawei Technologies Liang Hua.
Huawei has pledged to provide technical support to Kazakhstani railways in the implementation of this project. The parties also agreed to introduce the 4G Internet standard on the Trans-Kazakhstan railway, which passes through the territory of China, Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, Poland and Germany.
Kazakhtelecom Companies "," "" Transtelecom and other telecommunications operators will take part in the implementation of the 4G implementation project. The start of the project is scheduled for 2025. KTZ representatives said that to date, the data transmission networks necessary for the successful implementation of the initiative have already been modernized.
Cooperation between KTZ and Huawei also includes the creation of an innovative educational center in Kazakhstan specializing in artificial intelligence technologies called the College of the Future. Previously, companies have already introduced cloud technologies into rail transportation, and now it is planned to launch systems using artificial intelligence. Following the meeting, a joint action plan for 2025 was approved.
This cooperation is a continuation of the agreements reached in early 2023 during the meeting of the head of Huawei Liang Hua with the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Then it was announced that KTZ and Huawei would engage in the digitalization of the railway network in Kazakhstan.
The Chinese company Huawei has already funded research on the development of broadband Internet access and the transformation of Kazakhstan into a regional digital hub. The national company KTZ operates the state railway system, as well as carries out freight and passenger transportation. In 2022, freight traffic accounted for 86.6% of the group's revenue.[1]
