Ingosstrakh completed examination of infrastructure of database servers

On October 17, 2016 the press service of ITERBI announced project completion of examination of infrastructure of the Microsoft SQL Server databases by request of SPAO "Ingosstrakh".

Management of IT infrastructure - the difficult and long process requiring the system, verified processes. Work of such system requires periodic assessment of its status. SPAO "Ingosstrakh" selected assessment of the SQL servers.

Project Progress

The project of assessment of workloads of SQL helps to conduct examination of the SQL servers used in the company and to provide to the IT management complete, objective and reliable information about use of SQL servers.

The report prepared by "AYTERBI" helped:

• reveal possible risks, strong and weaknesses of infrastructure,
• define the status of licensing of the products SQL Server, including in virtual environments, for cost reduction and risks of acquisition of licenses,
• create the possible directions of optimization of the operating SQL infrastructure and licensing of software.

Examination is conducted on all structure of SPAO "Ingosstrakh". The project began inspection of installations of the SQL servers used in the company:

• analysis of a configuration of the hardware of SQL servers and its key components: CPU, RAM, disk subsystem;
• the analysis of settings of a configuration of each copy of SQL servers, taking into account requirements of applied applications;
• performance review of each copy of SQL servers;
• identification of errors in work of databases;
• SQL infrastructure security level assessment;
• assessment of relevance of versions of software of a DB, settings of configurations, memory and disk subsystems;
• the analysis of SQL servers regarding the analysis of settings on collecting of additional statistics (trace flags);
• assessment of delays and their reasons;
• assessment and optimization of licensing of the products SQL.

Collection of information about operation of SQL servers within the general analysis took several seconds and had no noticeable impact on loading of the equipment of the customer.

Project Results

Based on the carried-out project experts of JSC ITERBI developed recommendations about elimination of the risks connected with security, offered actions for performance improvement of DBMS, economy of the place and reduction in cost of storage of backup copies. Adhering to recommendations, the IT department optimized use of different methods of licensing of the Microsoft SQL Server and transferred a part of servers to licensing model "on cores" for receiving an additional economic benefit.

Critical remarks to a landscape of SQL servers of company SPAO "Ingosstrakh" are not revealed.

Even more often our clients are interested in projects according to SQL as it is very useful to receive comparative assessment of infrastructure on the basis of best practices of Microsoft. Our reports are, some kind of, the card for DBA with indication of problem places and ways of their solution. It is not the first joint project with Ingosstrakh company. And again we could implement it in the shortest possible time as processes of management of program assets at the customer are at the high level. The IT department has clear idea of IT assets and the high level of competence as in general, and regarding SQL.
