PhosAgro is implementing a three-year project to replace foreign software with the domestic Astra Linux operating system. By 2027, more than 7 thousand employees of the company, several data centers and all production sites will switch to a new IT infrastructure. This was announced by representatives of the Astra Group on December 3, 2025.

Earlier in 2025, PhosAgro reported on the use of Windows and talked about the launch of a centralized management system for workstations and servers based on Windows and Russian OS.

PhosAgro transfers employees to Russian OS

In 2025, more than 2 thousand users in the production and management departments of PhosAgro have already been transferred to the Russian operating system Astra Linux. The main motive for the transition was the need for independence from foreign suppliers and ensuring stable supplies of software solutions and their updates.

The pilot stage, carried out in 2024, included testing the Astra Linux operating system, selecting compatible applications and forming a roadmap for translating 7 thousand users. In 2025-2026. it is planned to carry out migration, prepare technical documentation, integrate with information security systems and create a test environment for pilot operation.

Before launching the project, the company's management took into account all the features, such as the compatibility of new software with existing equipment, the need to retrain technical specialists and end users, the readiness of Russian developers to maintain critical applications and production continuity when transferring systems. Based on this assessment, a phased road map was formed.

For a continuously operating enterprise, the issue of reliability and uninterrupted operation of the entire IT infrastructure is a priority. The availability of local technical support of the vendor and certificates of Russian regulators turned out to be decisive factors. The legislative framework played a significant role: the order of the Russian government of June 18, 2022 on decisions following the conference "Digital Industry of Industrial Russia" served as the starting point for the development of an import substitution strategy at PhosAgro[1][2]
