2025: Introduction of automatic driver fatigue recognition system

Karelian Okatysh""is implementing an automatic driver fatigue recognition system to prevent career accidents related to human factors. This is the own development of the plant employees, which is based on technology. computer vision The project is being implemented with the support of specialists "" and Severstal-infokomaSeverstal Digital"." This was Severstal announced on August 18, 2025.

In the cabins of the quarry dump trucks of the plant, a vision complex was installed computer , thanks to which the system independently, without human participation, can conclude that the driver is distracted from the road. This can be due to both falling asleep and responding to external factors, such as a phone.

Each potentially dangerous event has its own recognition algorithm. If the driver falls asleep, is distracted from the road or there is no seat belt on it, the system immediately sends a loud sound signal and displays a warning to the Modular terminal. At the same time, the data is received by the dispatcher and the shift master in the form of notifications for taking the necessary measures.

The first pilot tests of the system took place in 2022-2023. As of August 2025, thanks to the support of colleagues from the Severstal IT team, it demonstrates high efficiency. The main quality is complete automation. The model analyzes the position of key eye points, however, with the development of the system of these points, there may be more. Also, all algorithms are developed internally, which allows you to quickly configure and adapt the system for new tasks, "said Konstantin Korotkin, project manager of the customer's information technology service at Karelsky Okatysh.

The technology is already working around the clock on 50 dump trucks.
