The Technoserv company completed the project on transfer of a part of IT infrastructure of Kaspersky Lab company on the new technology platform, the company reported on October 2, 2012.
Start
The decision on moving of a part of IT infrastructure to new DPC is dictated by the active growth of business of the company requiring increase in capacities and areas for placement of the IT equipment, need of optimization of operating costs and improvements of specifications of operation of the equipment. At the same time it was necessary to ensure safety of all equipment and to minimize a downtime in rendering the IT services implemented on it.
Solution
Within the project implemented jointly by commands of Technoserv and Kaspersky Lab the full range of works on ensuring moving of IT infrastructure of the anti-virus company to new DPC is performed, including dismantling of the equipment, transportation, installation and connection, a commissioning of the server hardware (disk arrays, servers, a blade centers).
The transported IT infrastructure of Kaspersky Lab provides storage and reservation of information, the round-the-clock functioning of databases, statistical and analytical services, key information services of the company.
More than 600 items of equipment are transferred. For minimization of idle time in rendering IT services moving was performed step by step according to the developed plan of service migration and was carried out within 24 days.
"Transfer of IT infrastructure on the new technology platform will allow us to increase timely power and also to save up to several hundred thousands of dollars annually, – Sergey Paltov, the project manager of department of IT of Kaspersky Lab commented on the project. – By preparation of the project we set two main objectives. First, breaks in rendering IT services to clients should be minimum and process of moving of IT infrastructure should be almost imperceptible for work of staff of Kaspersky Lab. Secondly, during moving it was necessary to ensure safety of the equipment, having as much as possible protected it from any influences capable to entail loss of data or operability of services. Understanding complexity of a task, we put in the project such risks as failure probability of a part of services with need of recovery, damage of a part of the equipment or unplanned increase in a downtime. It is pleasant that practically any of the put risks was not implemented, and all project works were performed completely in time and with due quality. After moving IT services fully work in new DPC, and IT infrastructure completely conforms to all necessary requirements to fault tolerance and reliability".
"The main complexity of the project was that the equipment of the functioning IT system was transported, and any derogation from the diagram could affect immediately both clients, and a company performance in general. Besides, the specifics of the hi-tech equipment required special attention to a number of factors – beginning from degree of wear of the equipment and finishing with a status of infrastructure of both DPCs. Process of transportation undersigned literally constantly, and organizational and logistic difficulties at its implementation managed to be avoided thanks to the logistics system which is perfectly built by the project manager, professionalism of engineers and harmonious work with a team of the customer", – Alexey Pilipchuk, the technical director of integrator of Technoserv noted.
