Yandex purchased 5 thousand Lada cars for taxis

During the first half of 2024, AvtoVAZ delivered approximately 5 thousand Lada cars for the Yandex Taxi car park. According to the results of 2024, in general, the Russian automaker plans to transfer about 10 thousand cars to taxi aggregators. This was announced in early August 2024 by the head of the department for interaction with the federal authorities of AvtoVAZ Alexander Vinogradov.

According to him, in September 2024, the company will begin production of a new model - Lada Aura. It is considered as a car for deliveries to taxi aggregators at the "business" tariff. Earlier it was reported that this is an executive sedan, which differs from the traditional Lada Vesta with an elongated rear door. The machine will be equipped with a premium audio system.

Interaction with Yandex in this [2024] year has already given us about 5 thousand cars, we have already delivered. If all this is scaled, there will be about 10 thousand [by the end of 2024, taking into account other aggregators]. And this is only 1-2%, by and large, of our annual production program - this year more than five hundred thousand cars will be produced, - said Vinogradov, quoted by TASS.

Earlier, the Yandex Taxi service used cars from manufacturers such as Kia, Skoda and Volkswagen for the largest segment of Economy. However, against the background of the formed geopolitical situation, difficulties arose with the supply of these machines. According to Forbes, referring to information received from knowledgeable persons, the problem of a shortage of cars for taxi companies appeared during the COVID-19 pandemic, but worsened in 2022 after foreign manufacturers left Russia amid US and European sanctions.^[1]
