Lufthansa Systems will apply a hybrid cloud solution

On January 13, 2014 the Microsoft company reported: Lufthansa Systems, affiliated enterprise of Lufthansa Group airline, used technologies of Microsoft for ensuring smooth operation of IT infrastructure and services.

Project Tasks

Lufthansa Systems provides consulting and IT services to a large number of airlines - more than 300, 150 clients from other spheres of the market. Data processing centers of the company provide functioning of server products of Microsoft, software of third-party developers, applications for separate divisions of the company.

The available means of ensuring of disaster recovery of systems did not provide sufficient performance level and required increase in capacities of DPCs that involved fixed expenses.

Lufthansa Systems needed effective, reliable and economic solution. Specialists of the company made the decision on creation of hybrid architecture: two SQL Servers of 2014 are placed on virtual machines in DPC of the company, one more virtual machine — in Windows Azure "cloud". All together they - a part of SQL Server AlwaysOn Availability Group. Two copies working in DPC of the company: the main and additional remarks which function synchronously for support of high availability by means of automatic disaster recovery. Windows Azure copy - one more, additional, the remark which works in an asynchronous mode and provides disaster tolerance of the solution. Disaster recovery is executed manually.

The pilot project showed that the hybrid cloud on a basis Windows Server 2012, Microsoft SQL Server 2014 and cloud services Windows Azure provides fast and complete recovery of data, allows to cut down expenses and to increase service quality.

Project Progress

Partners decided to implement step by step the solution, since 2014.

The hybrid cloud solution created on a basis Windows Server 2012 Microsoft SQL Server 2014 and cloud services Windows Azure, will expand local IT infrastructure of the company and will help to improve customer service quality, having reduced at the same time capital and operating costs.
