M.Video upgrades a wireless network

On March 1, 2017 the Technoserv company announced implementation of the hardware solution of Aruba Instant in network of M.Video company.

Project Tasks

The M.Video network used Wi-Fi from Internet service providers by the principle of outsourcing, but from such network it was impossible to get access to own local network. In addition, Wi-Fi from providers could not cover all territory of shop and warehouses. The company decided to organize in shops such wireless network which it would control to have an opportunity to carry out monitoring of its status and to quickly solve the arising problems.

The modified wireless network will allow to connect to the Internet of the device, exposed on show-windows of shops that buyers could get acquainted with their opportunities in more detail. Selling assistants who work with clients also will be able safely to be connected to Wi-Fi, using tablets. As these tablets have access to internal a system and to data of the company, they need to use a safe and confidential wireless network[1].

Project Progress

The pilot project of upgrade of a wireless network began in 2016 in 20 M.Video shops. The first stage of the project lasted six months, it covered 100 shops. The second stage should be completed during 2017. After that the upgraded Wi-Fi will appear in half of shops of network - 100 more shops. The integrator of the project of upgrade Wi-Fi in M.Video is Technoserv company.

For creation of wireless networks the hardware-software solution Aruba Instant is used. The solution has a built-in firewall of Captive Portal using which there is providing a guest access. The screen supports "seamless" roaming when the user moves from one access point to another. Besides, Captive Portal is responsible for detection of the next networks and foreign access points, exercises automatic control of an air and executes some other tasks.

To achieve smooth operation of network and to increase its performance, Technoserv preposted radio inspection of shops. It helped to define how many points should be placed on each square and where them it is better to locate. In each shop on the basis of one of access points the virtual controller is created. If the selected point for any reason ceases to perform functions of the controller, they are undertaken by other point. Besides, in Technoserv the separate module of automatic change of keys of access to a wireless network is created. The module gives the chance to send new keys by e-mail to the management of shops.

At the first stage of the project of upgrade Wi-Fi in M.Video 1.3 thousand access points on the area of shops in 170 thousand m ² are created. In each shop about 300 simultaneous connections to Wi-Fi are serviced.
