On December 12, 2022, the Magnitogorsk Metallurgical Plant (MMK, Chelyabinsk Region) announced the launch of an inventory system for warehouses of coke-chemical and mining and processing industries using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
As noted in the company, drones are able to scan the plant's reserves containing more than a million tons of coal and iron ore raw materials in a few hours, eliminate the need for traditional surveying and make it easy to collect data from inaccessible objects.
It is noted that the new solution provides information collection from all warehouses. So, aerial photography is used on open ones, ground laser scanning is used on closed ones. As a result, an accurate digital model is created with access through a web interface that does not require the installation of additional software.
Based on digital models of warehouses and a separate module of the system, dynamic analytical reports (dashboards) are created, which allow specialists to quickly obtain reliable information about the volumes of raw materials in a particular warehouse and its types.
The system was implemented by specialists from Sarex and MMK-Informservice. Investments in the project were not disclosed.
MMK added that the coal and LRW inventory system was shortlisted for the Digital Olympus corporate competition and is a contender for the Digital Project of the Year title. The winner on December 27 will be chosen by an expert council chaired by MMK CEO Pavel Shilyaev. The Digital Olympus competition is designed to popularize ideas and initiatives aimed at implementing MMK's digital strategy, determining the best IT projects, as well as forming leaders in digital transformation among the company's employees.[1]
