"MUEC" upgraded databases of SAP

In September, 2013 it became known that the Compulink group upgraded the platform of the SAP ERP database of JSC MOEK. The ERP systems database of MUEC − one of the largest in Russia, its volume makes the 10th terabyte, the number of users about 7 thousand people, but thanks to carefully carried out preparation time of transfer was only 48 hours.

The new platform for the database will allow MUEC to increase seriously performance of all ERP system, to be prepared for increase in loading in connection with growth of scale of activity of the company and to lay the strong foundation for implementation of new modules of SAP. Also migration will provide increase in energy efficiency and will reduce the cost of maintenance of a system.

Project Progress

Migration of the database is executed from HP servers with PA-RISC and Intel Itanium processors and the operating system of HP-UX, on a blade-HP server of BL 660 and BL 460, with Intel processors of x86 and the Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system. Change of architecture of servers demanded converting of data at transfer that increased complexity of the project. Along with preparation of data migration specialists of Compulink Group carried out work on updating of the version of Oracle DBMS with 10g to 11g. As a result the customer received a new modern system which considers all recommendations of Oracle and HP.

"The system used in MUEC was the road in operation, generally due to big electricity consumption, and did not provide necessary data processing rate. The new solution allowed to reduce costs and to increase document flow performance: after transfer the speed of system operation of SAP grew five times. Most of all concerns to us were caused directly by process of migration and a question of maintenance of a system on new servers in extremely short time. The stop of activity of the company in case of failures involved huge expenses and created problems for our consumers. But our concerns were vain, specialists of Compulink Group worked accurately and perfectly coped with a task", − the director of the Center of information technologies of JSC MOEK Vladimir Gusev told.

Transfer of a system without stopping of a company performance was one of the main requirements of JSC MOEK. Preparatory project phase lasted more than a year: the first stage – supply of equipment for a new complex and its installation, was finished at the end of 2012, input of a hardware and software system in test operation and preparation of the database for migration became the next step. The main complexity of the project consisted in the huge amount of data and a large number of the users working in a system, additional difficulties were connected with impossibility of rollback of a system after the beginning of work of users.

"Migration of the database had to be executed in 48 hours according to the accurate diagram. It is possible to stop system operation for transfer only those days when in it preparation of the reporting and calculations are not conducted, and these are exactly three days a month, plus it is necessary that these days got for the weekend. We waited two months until these terms match, and had no right to an error.
