ELAR corporation at the beginning of November, 2010 completed the works for the Ministry of Regional Development of the Russian Federation on creation of a digital library of editions of the Finno-Ugric people entering the Uniform list of indigenous ethnic groups of the Russian Federation.

In a work progress more than 100 thousand sheets of rare books from funds of the Russian State Library (RSL) were scanned. The purpose of this project consisted in creation of the systematized electronic base of editions in languages of the Finno-Ugric people for formation of uniform cultural information space of the Finno-Ugric people of Russia.

For accomplishment of an assigned task the professional equipment — the Planskan ELAR planetary scanners and the ELAR document scanners of Skamaks intended for mass digitization of the sewed and embroidered documentation was used. Scanners provide high quality of the received electronic copies even during the work with the old, hushed-up or damaged originals. And the lack of harmful IK and UF of radiation excludes a possibility of damage of the original during operation that allows to digitize rare documents.

After all documents were scanned, specialists of ELAR performed preparation of graphic pages of documents for automatic text recognition with formation of the sequence of pages, created an array of text pages of documents (except for manuscripts) and also carried out indexation of documents on unique sign of a binding to the bibliographic description. Then the processed electronic collections of editions were loaded into an information resource.

The works on creation of a digital library of editions of the Finno-Ugric people which are carried out by Corporation allowed readers of the RGB halls to get online multi-user access to full text resources of electronic collections of funds of library.
