2018: More than 20 new Pantsir-S complexes will strengthen Moscow's air defense

On February 28, 2018, it became known that more than two dozen new Pantsir-S anti-aircraft missile and cannon systems will strengthen Moscow's air defense, the information department of the Russian Defense Ministry told Interfax on Wednesday.

"The combat vehicles of the Pantsir-S air defense missile system will be delivered to the Moscow region to the points of permanent deployment of the anti-aircraft missile regiments of the 1st Army of Air Defense-Missile Defense (special purpose) of the Aerospace Forces, where the new Pantsir-S air defense systems will be on alert for the air defense of Moscow and provide cover for the Triumph S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems," the department said^[1]

According to the department, earlier these complexes performed initial live shooting at the Ashuluk training ground in the Astrakhan region. In total, "more than 20 combat vehicles" were involved in the maneuvers, the report says.

"During the initial firing by the combat crews of the Pantsir-S air defense missile system, about 2.5 thousand shots from missile and cannon weapons were fired at more than 20 target missiles simulating cruise missiles, aerodynamic targets, unmanned aerial vehicles, as well as targets simulating ground-based lightly armored vehicles," the department noted.
