"The note of Re" was reinsured by the solution Double-Take

The Business Continuity International company completed a solution Double-Take implementation project in reinsurance company "Nakhodka Re".

Prerequisites

The most vulnerable component in work of any insurance and reinsurance company is the complex of technologies including the existing corporate applications and storage systems.

In "Nakhodka Re" the issue of protection was resolved by means of data backup on other carriers. In case of failure of hardware or software, it allowed to recover a system in a status "before backup". However the applied technology did not give a comprehensive protection and fast data recovery without loss and also did not reduce idle times in work.

"The task of the choice of the technology capable to provide fast data recovery was set for IT department and to reduce a downtime of business in case of accident. Failure from replacement of hardware platforms or elements of infrastructure was an important point when choosing the solution. We could not afford it neither at cost, nor on time of implementation of such product which besides could not provide flexibility for further changes. After all miscalculations and determination of priority tasks, we came to a conclusion that ideally the solution should be based on program algorithms and not depend on a specific hardware or virtual platform", - Vladimir Belomestnov, the technical director of customer company comments.

As the corporate standard for ensuring strategy of disaster-proof protection, to the made "Business continuity plan also recovery after accidents also agrees", the company selected the products Double-Take.

Result

"Nakhodka Re" received the solution allowing to recover data in a system in case of unforeseen accident, and servers of the company. The recovery time of a full-fledged work – hours, i.e. recovery on backup office is performed less than per day.

In other case, recovery takes minutes.

The solution provides a possibility of recovery as at the time of failure (that is important at failure of the equipment), and an opportunity to roll away recovery point about 24 day ago at an interval of an hour that is important at the failures caused by a human factor. At the same time not only data and programs, but also internal state of the server of production are recovered.

Nuances

In addition, the solution are applied to consolidation of databases from remote offices. Database replication allows to have relevant copies of data in each of offices of the company – the peculiar geographically distributed cluster of databases. It gives the chance to create management decisions, relying on a relevant picture of a reinsurance portfolio, irrespective of the time difference and distances separating offices in Nakhodka, in Moscow and in London.
