At the end of February, 2020 the South Korean bank Nonghyup Bank (NH Bank) provided the system of identification of employees based on technology of a blockchain. This first commercial application of technology of the distributed identification developed by consortium Initial DID Association.
Initial DID Association is the decentralized consortium headed by the Korean Ministry of science and ICT and the Korean agency of the Internet and security (KISA). The consortium was founded at the initiative of LG, SK Telecom and Samsung Electronics which then several other telecommunication and commercial banks, including Nonghyup bank joined.
The consortium aims to implement the system of identification allowing users to control completely own, including personal, data.
Earlier Initial DID Association started a blockchain platform which would allow employees to use mobile phones instead of identity certificates. For studying of these opportunities the consortium developed mobile application using which users could load the certificates and other information into the database. QR codes which users could scan for the purpose of issue and submission of documents were issued to the participating organizations.
"The mobile employee identifier" was jointly implemented by Nonghyup and SK Telecom bank and relies on the technology developed by Initial DID Association. In a pilot project of 20 employees of the bank of Nonghyup submitted the application and received the virtual ID card on the mobile phones. Now they can use a special application for identification at an input in office. The company is going to expand functionality of the mobile identifier - for example, to include the simple functions of payment allowing to buy products in cafeteria.[1]
