In July, 2020 doctors of the Kemerovo clinical oncological clinic performed unique patient's lung operation — microwave thermoablation of a tumor, using the device Covidien Emprint which was purchased within the national Health care project.

The equipment radiates microwaves which pass through a special needle. It is entered into a tumor or a metastasis. Under the influence of microwaves of a cage heat up to 100 degrees and collapse. Such method is already successfully used at treatment of metastases in a liver.

The Kuzbass oncologists applied microwave thermoablation at treatment of a tumor of a lung. The 70-year-old resident of Kuzbass with a tumor of an upper share of the left lung with a diameter of 4 cm which prilezhat to a chest wall came to regional oncology dispensary. Specialists set the second stage of cancer. Because the patient had a serious vascular and cardiac pathology, it was impossible to delete with a traditional method a tumor. Then doctors of department of thoracoabdominal surgery decided to apply thermoablation.

Under ultrasonography control we through skin entered the microwave applicator into a tumor and influenced it 10 minutes, having set device power on 100 watts, – the oncologist Igor Vladimirovich Ostapenko says. – We hope that we "burned" a tumor.

According to Ostapenko, in a month the patient will pass a computer tomography. If the research shows that some part of a tumor remained, radiation therapy will be appointed to finish the cure of this zone. For the third day after transaction the patient was written out home, he told.

As noted on the website of the Kemerovo clinical oncological clinic, transaction took place successfully thanks to harmonious work of surgeons, anesthesiologists and the ultrasonographer.[1]
