The "Optima of Cargo Transportation and Logistics" company implements possibilities of virtual computing structure

Background

Owners of business "And logistics" decided to change Optima of cargo transportation cardinally used model of providing transport services as result of upgrade of the existing business in the field of cargo transportation.

Much business scales increased, the organization of provision of services considerably became complicated. It in turn led to the fact that requirements to reliability and functionality of information systems cardinally changed. In fact, all available software and also the computer hardware provided actually by one not really productive server and several computers was not suitable for activity of the new company.

Under new business it was necessary to create IT infrastructure actually on "blank space". However financial opportunities of owners of business did not allow to conduct procurement of a necessary computer hardware and the software. Therefore it is initial during creation "Optima of cargo transportation and logistics" the decision to rent the software and computing powers was made.

After studying of the offers which are available in the Russian market the IT service of transport enterprise selected the company from quality of service provider IT Lite, and together with it started construction of virtual IT infrastructure. This worked began with deployment of one terminal server.

Solution

During the project of migration of information systems on virtual infrastructure IT Lite, private "cloud" as a part of five virtual servers running Windows Server was organized. Among them: servers of terminal access for work more than 70 employees, the application server for an accounting and managerial system, the database server under control of Microsoft SQL Server 2008, the server of the domain controller and the server for 1C. On virtual desktops it was unrolled by software of Microsoft Office and the general storage of documents is organized.

Functional purpose of the used servers

1. Microsoft SQL Server 2008.

a. Main data warehouse.

b. Data processing, using stored procedures, triggers (T-SQL).

c. Report Services report generation.

d. Integration into Excel using Integration Services

2. Servers of terminals (RDP).

a. Are used for work with programs on MS Access (VBA).

3. IIS server.

a. The website on the ASP.NET platform.

b. Reports, import of data, personal accounts of clients, agents.

c. Data access for mobile devices on Web Services (SOAP) technology.

4. Domain controller.

Results and advantage

Thanks to creation of virtual IT infrastructure the customer had an opportunity to use the latests version of solutions of Microsoft without investments into the expensive hardware.

Virtual IT infrastructure provides simplicity of scaling of the information systems used by the enterprise. At the growing need for computing powers all necessary resources can be received quickly, without thinking of acquisition and installation at the enterprise of the additional hardware.
