The Oshchadny bank of Ukraine creates the centralized data warehouse

The IBM company and JSC Oschadbank completed the first stage of the project of creation of the centralized data warehouse on the basis of the industrial IBM Banking Data Warehouse Model and implementation on its basis of the system of the management reporting.

Project Objectives

Project objective - to provide management of bank with timely and reliable information for acceptance of management decisions on a basis:

• uniform source of reliable data;
• regular technology of accumulation, cleaning and data integration;
• specialized thematic show-windows for creation of managerial reports on the basis of transfer pricing, financial statements according to IFRS, reports for risk management, reports on commercial results of activity of businesses by client segments and products, etc.

Platform of the project

The basis of project implementation is the industrial IBM Banking Data Warehouse (BDW) model which represents the integrated set the practician created as a result of many successful projects of IBM on creation of data warehouses in banks. The model covers all business functions of financial institution and significantly reduces project risks both at a modeling stage, and in implementation process.

A new system is constructed on the platform of the IBM Power System 770 server and a storage system of IBM Storwize V7000 providing the highest performance and scalability at the expense of virtualization opportunities, both computing powers, and the data storage environment.

Readiness of the project

The first data loading in storage took place on December 24, 2012. Development and deployment of a complex 9 months proceeded. Official commissioning and connection of the first users took place on July 1, 2013.

Project Results

• primary data of accounting are centralized, data on all personal accounts, their additional parameters and postings are loaded;
• data on all clients of bank are loaded (without consolidation of duplicative records on clients and without creation of uniform master record on clients (Customer Information File/CIF);
• the software is developed for calculation of transfer result on all personal accounts taking into account cash flow for urgent accounts;
• the software is developed for control of data loading, monitoring and start of calculations and also centralized operation by reference books of storage;
• the first reports of Cognos BI for finance and economics department, the head operational management, management of the organization of back-office of retail business and department of risks are created.

"Implementation of the first stage of implementation of the data warehouse will allow us to make powerful high-quality breakthrough in increase in effective management of information. The bank board approves priorities of its development for 2013-2015, in particular, its integration into the module of calculation of reserves for reporting according to IFRS 39, creation of the uniform reference database of corporate clients for preparation of managerial reports on profitability. Besides, we are going to begin works on creation of the uniform reference database of retail clients, using the model of bank vault which is already purchased by bank and instruments of cleaning and transformation of data of IBM company", – the chairman of the board of JSC Oschadbank Sergey Podrezov noted.
