2024: Use of supercomputer complex
The P.P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IO RAS) actively uses its supercomputer complex, developed and established by specialists of the RSK group of companies, to study the role of the World Ocean and the Seas of Russia in the formation and forecasting of climate, the balance of greenhouse gases, as well as the entire complex of physical, chemical, biological and geological processes in the ocean and ensuring environmental safety in the interests of sustainable development of humanity. The RSK announced this on September 5, 2024.
The RSK supercomputer provided RAS the necessary computing resources for the IO to effectively solve complex problems in the framework of two most important initiatives. Firstly, we are talking about a project of national importance "Unified National System for Monitoring Climatically Active Substances." And secondly, about the Federal Scientific and Technical Program in the field of environmental development RUSSIAN FEDERATION and climatic changes for 2021-2030. The use of this system will allow you to accumulate the necessary experience in working on such installations in order to start using a much more powerful computing complex as efficiently as possible, which is planned to appear in the next 2-3 years within the framework of the Unified National System for Monitoring Climatically Active Substances, - said Sergey Gulev, Head of the Laboratory for Ocean-Atmosphere Interaction and Climate Monitoring of the IO RAS. |
For HPC design and subsequent upgrades the complex at the Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, RSK specialists completed several projects from 2017 to 2024. As of September 2024, the super computer complex of the IO RAS includes 50 Xeon-based computing nodes processors Intel with direct liquid cooling based on a high-density and energy-efficient platform. "RSK Tornado
Recently, two nodes based on graphics accelerators were installed in this system. Nvidia Tesla H100 (80GB) with liquid cooling and 104 Tflops (FP64) performance. Now its total performance exceeds 308 Tflops. High-performance storage for the computing system The Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences has a total volume of more than 50 TB per SSDs and more than 1,500 TB on magnetic drives. With integrated software solution "RSK BazIS" created a hierarchical data storage environment with the ability to create On-demand file system configurations.
The developers of the RSK provide for the possibility of further expansion of the resources of the supercomputer IO RAS, which is planned to be implemented later in 2024.
