The chief information officer of Pedant told how he independently changed 1C for AX

The retail network "Bukvoyed" a few years ago implemented the unique project by own forces: having migrated from the ERP-1C Platform on Microsoft Dynamics AX. At the expense of it it was succeeded to reduce project cost significantly. How there was implementation, told the CIO companies.

The book network "Bukvoyed" taking the second place in Russia in the market of book trade a few years ago carried out migration with ERP платфомы 1C:7 (it was used since 2002) on Microsoft Dynamics AX. Details of the project were disclosed by the Chief information officer of the company Dmitry Mozgov.

According to him, at the large volume of commodity nomenclatures before the company especially sharply there was an issue of effective management of the range. The main requirement to the ERP company is in that its performance provided a possibility of fast processing of large volumes of data.

In process of active business development an old ERP system began to lose performance. "When the number of competitive users exceeded 70, it became impossible to work in principle: tables were constantly blocked, response time grew in tens of times, databases ceased to be archived. The procedure of closing and carrying out inventory began to take almost day, at the same time other users could not work with a system during this transaction", - he says.

The company tried to solve a problem at the expense of more powerful "iron", but quickly enough established that the problem nevertheless is in platform opportunities. At choice of new nearly a year left. In addition to AH Pedant also considered Microsoft Dynamics NAV, JD Edwards and the new version "1C:Enterprise 8". As a result on AH stopped owing to powerful functionality, scalability and flexibility and also the average price on the license.

It is interesting that Pedant made the decision to implement a new ERP system independently, first of all because of the limited project budget and also there are enough well registered business processes. So the company looked for such integrator and the supplier of licenses which could support it in this process. The supplier as a result acted as Corus Consulting.

"Pedant" estimated that the probability of success of independent implementation or using consultants were approximately identical at the time of implementation. "The initiative strongly helped with our case from management of the company. The CEO of network "Pedant "Denis Kotov is a technocrat, he is interested in information technologies of management and sees in them advantages to business. He actively participated in selection process of the ERP platform, the supplier and for 100% supported a command during implementation", - Dmitry told.

During the AH project it was necessary to set as the system which is responsible for management of merchandising and all transactions with goods from purchase to cash desk. And finance – to leave personnel management on 1C. The main complexity which the project team faced is joining of platforms.

At integration of Microsoft Dynamics AX and warehouse module 1C some of procedures were not correctly tested and debugged: after start of a system the goods began "creep away" uncontrollable on a system, vanish and to be displayed incorrectly. On completion and testing of one this section left about a month, other works were performed much quicker.

A system was brought into test operation in May, 2005, and in three months earned in the industrial mode. In it about 130 users who are supported by the Axapta group which is specially selected in the company at the moment work.

The network of cash registers works at the software of Artics and is connected with Microsoft Dynamics AX via the so-called "Cash server". Implemented this Pedant program relatively recently: when the number of cash desks exceeded 100, the buffer was necessary for data exchange process optimization between cash desks and an information system.

The corporate website of Pedant is also connected with the main information system. A year ago the project of "online store" to which data from Microsoft Dynamics AX on the range, the prices, existence in shops and a possibility of armoring come was started.

Also Pedant actively participates in development of industry information system EOTR – the Unified industry commodity register of book products. A system provides standardization of descriptions of book products and is designed to arrange process of data exchange between operators of the market. This project arose in a subsoil of Pedant, and now develops under control of the Russian book union.

Recently the Bukvoyed network integrated with the Moscow player "New book", and at the moment the IT company of two companies absolutely different therefore about the consolidation ERP of the speech does not go yet. In the closest plans of Bukvoyed control automation of own big warehouse. Perhaps, it will be the WMS solution based on AH of 2009.

As for the cost of the ERP project, it does not reveal. However proceeding from the cost of licenses of Axapta and number of users (services in integration were not), it could cost Pedant upon purchase of an expanded packet of licenses of all 260-325 thousand euros.
