Privat-Trade upgrades IT infrastructure

On August 28, 2014 Privat Treyd companies and IBM announced project completion on upgrade of IT infrastructure of KupiVip.ru online store.

Project Tasks

The sales of goods via the Internet define specifics of business: the round-the-clock support of access to shop which cornerstone the high-loaded database with information on goods, buyers and the executed transactions is. In it the mode also the call center of the company works. The stop of services even for an hour will entail severe financial losses, even small delays in work of online store can "frighten off" potential buyers.

Growth of business at the end of 2011 caused the decision on upgrade of IT and moving of the server hardware to new DPC, to Privat Treyd companies. Project implementation consisted of several stages:

• audit of the operating infrastructure,
• development of solutions on upgrade,
• supply of equipment and software,
• implementation.

The project was implemented by Galard company.

Project Progress

Based on carrying out the detailed inspection of infrastructure, servers of business applications and DWH servicing them which architectural restrictions did not allow to scale them with a further growth of loading were weak points. For the high-loaded processes low-end level servers without virtualization were used, and DWH of initial level did not provide performance gain due to increase in quantity of disks. Besides, DWH had only basic functionality of mirroring and creation of the backup copy of data on the basis of which it is impossible to implement multistage fault tolerance.

Analyzing offers of vendors, specialists Privat Treyd stopped the choice on solutions of IBM. The scalability and reliability of infrastructure, a guarantee from contingencies and the predicted budget of updates – became the defining factors in adoption of the positive solution.

At the heart of a server framework three rack IBM x3850 X5 servers on the platform are used IBM X-Architecture. For ensuring fault tolerance at the level of servers implemented means of virtualization on the VMware software platform. A storage system of initial level replaced with more productive and functional solution of the class mid-range IBM Storwize V7000.

Project Results

"In Privat Treyd considered options of the systems of different level from different vendors and stopped the choice on the solution of IBM as optimal based on the ratio of all required parameters. The technology platform of Storwize V7000 actually is the base for creation of all infrastructure of DPC providing a possibility of flexible scaling depending on turnover of our online store" – Oleg Kachanov, CIO Privat Treyd noted.

After upgrade the average time of a response of a system decreased by 5 times. At the same time the amount of the database increased more than twice. Using an otkazoustochivy configuration continuous functioning of business applications is ensured. The project on creation new call center to online store on the platform of a scalable solution the server + storage system of initial level is implemented (IBM the x3850X5 server, x3650 and DWH DS3500 with additional disk arrays).
