Quantum computers began to protect cars from cyber attacks

At the beginning of January, 2020 the Canadian company ISARA, the leading supplier of the quantum systems of cyber security, provided the updated Karma Revero GT car which, according to developers, is capable to send and receive electronic voice messages, without being afraid that information will be intercepted and decrypted — even using the quantum computer. ISARA created the communication solution using quantum communication.

As modern cars are expected a regular software update and connection to a wireless network, development of quantum computers can make them hackable. It is supposed that quantum computers will be able to crack the traditional encryption algorithms ensuring data security in modern cars, and therefore developers actively look for new methods of protection against cyber attacks.

As cars grow wiser, and their communication with the digital world gets stronger, the data security becomes the integral component of safety of the driver — the CEO of ISARA and cofounder Scott Totzke explained. — Car makers should begin preparation of quantum and safe plans already now to guarantee security of new technologies, for example, of unmanned vehicles. Fortunately, already now there are tools which allow to guarantee cyber security of cars of the future.

For demonstration of the electric vehicle Karma Revero GT commercially available products, including the ISARA Catalyst TLS test stand were selected. They allowed to create safe connection for the platform of the assistant to the driver of Netpeople iNAGO using hybrid cryptography which combines ECDH and Kyber technologies for establishment of a key and Dilithium for authentication — i.e. the algorithms which are already implemented in commercially available ISARA Radiate Quantum-Safe Toolkit.[1]
