RDI Group (Microsoft Lync)

Situation

RDI Group totals about 400 users from the different companies. Until implementation of Lync Server 2013 in the company the normal automatic telephone exchange which constantly suspended and broke work of all company was used. It should be noted that the project principle of work is characteristic of RDI company, and in this case the coordination of work of commands on projects, but also efficiency in communications is important not just. The guide of RDI Group was carefully considered by all pros and cons of different solutions and stopped on Lync choice, but with one condition. For specialists the Link set the task: think up a method of preserving of the equipment, namely, a large number of IP phones which needed to give the second life, having connected them to Lync. Certainly, more attractive functionality of the 2013th version of Lync became the additional factor which positively influenced the choice updated and.

Solution

In order that IT specialists and the management of RDI could experience fully all conveniences of Lync 2013 and its advantage over automatic telephone exchange and finally make the decision, specialists of Linkom LLC made pilot implementation which imposed some restrictions for functionality and possibilities of use of Lync, however allowed to estimate its work in general.

Within this project the following works were done:

• the basic functionality of Lync, without external access is implemented, i.e. users had an opportunity to communicate with each other in a chat and also by means of audio-and video of calls, but is exclusive in a format a point-to-point (possibilities of communication in a format of a full-fledged conference are available in Lync within industrial implementation and in the presence of special licenses);

• integration with telephony using SIP provider is configured;

• access from mobile devices is configured;

• integration with Exchange 2013 Unified Messaging for implementation of functionality of the voice menu and voice access to a mailbox is performed;

• the Audiocodes SPS service necessary is configured not to change the equipment, and to connect the existing IP phones.

At the end of few months of testing of a pilot project of implementation of the communication product Microsoft Lync in RDI Group were satisfied as the done work, and a product. In the investigation of what the decision on continuation of cooperation with Linkom LLC and further industrial implementation of the full version of Lync 2013 in failsafe and disaster-proof option, with component placement in geographically distributed DPCs was made.
