RackStore uses VMmanager for providing virtual servers to clients

2020: VMmanager implementation

On September 1, 2020 the company ISPsystem announced that hosting it -provider RackStore uses VMmanager for providing VDS (Virtual Dedicated Server) to clients.

RackStore hosting provider in the Russian market since 2011. The company works by the principle of a single window: clients of RackStore can place the equipment in data center, rent physical servers and cloud resources. There are also small services, such as registration of domain name or release of the SSL certificate.

How the platform for virtualization of VMmanager helped to automate providing the selected virtual dedicated servers to the client, the lead engineer on implementation Ilya Shashlov told: "We were faced by a task to open services of virtualization based on KVM. At implementation of this type of virtualization the tool for resource management was required. At that time we used virtualization of VMware, but it was suitable for infrastructure solutions, such as IaaS more. We wanted to expand a service line and to implement qualitative, but more available solution for clients who need VDS. So we selected KVM."

Providing virtual servers manually — very labor-intensive and inefficient process which it is possible and needs to be automated. The provider decided to organize services so that specialists of technical service had not to spend time for this work: select computing resources, configure OS, transfer access to the virtual machine.

It was required to find the simple solution for virtualization. The provider already used the ISPsysytem platform for automation of sales of a hosting of BILLmanager. First of all, options of integration with this system were studied.

Then the customer paid attention to VMmanager, the platform for virtualization based on KVM. This solution, according to the customer, was the simplest for implementation, at the same time did not require completions.

• Through the VMmanager panel it is possible to perform independently standard operations with the server:
  • to Monitor virtual machines, to receive messages about events and to watch statistics
  • to Do snapshots
  • VDS Control panel
  • to Execute reset or reinstallation of OS. For example, the client can install independently Windows at any time without the appeal to technical support.

• VMmanager saves time of IT specialists
• VMmanager works independently and does not require permanent attention of technical service. Everything is optimized and works practically without interventions.
• It is convenient to administrators that VMmanager on familiar Linux, but not on a specific new product with difficult documentation.

That the provider as a result of VMmanager implementation received:

• Thanks to implementation of VMmanager it was succeeded to configure autonomous processes on providing virtual servers based on KVM.
• In VMmanager everything is automated. The provider saves time, and users receive a control panel
