"Red Yar" upgrades DWH

On April 22, 2014 the company announced Open Technologies project completion of upgrade of a storage system in network of epicures Red Yar.

Project Tasks

For conducting financial and accounting work in the company since 2004 the database using resources of a corporate system of storage functions. With growth of number of shops and increase in a flow of clients, also the volume of the processed data increased. DWH ceased to cope with loading that caused decline in production of the database - some necessary reports could form almost day.

Solve a problem scaling of an old system economically was unprofitable because of the high cost of outdated types of drives. It was required to increase performance of input-output operations, using the system of multilevel storage at which there is an automatic distribution of data depending on extent of their use. The new solution had to ensure continuous, smooth functioning of retail chain stores and safety of information in case of hardware failures, program failures and human errors.

For the choice of the solution for upgrade of a storage system comparison of proposals of several producers is carried out, experience of use of the different equipment for data storage in other retail chain stores of Siberian Federal District is analyzed.

Products of EMS corporation were the most suitable products. Except production characteristics the choice was influenced by existence in the proposed solution of unique technologies as the built-in uninterruptible power supply units which support switching off of storage in the absence of electricity for correct completion of record on disks and also technology creation of a cache from SSD disks.

Project Progress

During the project specialists of the company Open Technologies executed supply of equipment, installation and setup of the data warehouse, its testing with the different RAID modes, and then step-by-step and organized input of a system in operation is performed.

Project Results

"Upgrading DWH, we could achieve noticeable performance improvement of the basis for data of the company. Now operations reports at us form 6-10 times quicker.
