On July 9, 2020 announced Renault large-scale digital transformation which the French car maker will carry out together with Google. Within the signed contract Renault will transfer the platform under production management to cloud infrastructure of Google Cloud and also will use some other services of the American partner.
Began with Renault the movement towards the concept of Industry 4.0 assuming digital conversions traditional industrial the practician and product development processes using Big Data and smart technologies.
Renault began to develop the main IT platform which collects data more than from 2.5 thousand machines at 22 enterprises worldwide in 2016. In July the 2020th the company decided to place it in a cloud of Google and also to optimize and improve.
Google by means of the tools using algorithms of artificial intelligence and machine learning will organize data collection from the Renault plants, the robotic equipment and supply chains. Google called this contract calculated on several years the largest in own way for all history. At the same time the companies did not begin to open either a financial component of the transaction, or terms, or other terms of use of cloud services car maker.
We consider that manufacturing companies need the new platform which harmoniously would supplement work of assembly lines, supply chains and other systems which they already have, - the head of cloud division of Google Cloud Thomas Kurian reported in an interview of Bloomberg. – The contract with Renault will allow the company to improve production processes, industrial automation and to adapt management systems. |
According to the director of digital transformation of production Renault Eric Marchiol, Google offers "huge feed for improvement of our plants". At the same time partners of Renault also will be able to be connected to the cloud project. It supplements cooperation of alliance Renault Nissan with Microsoft in automobile communication technologies. The cloud platform of Google Cloud will allow Renault to improve supply chains, to increase production efficiency and product quality and also to mitigate impact on the environment due to economy of energy.
Besides, digital transformation assumes start of the large-scale program of advanced training within which IT specialists of Renault will work together with a command of Google and to learn "the culture of data management".
Google specifies that the new transaction does not concern the operating partnership with Renault in the field of advertizing and also division on development unmanned vehicles Waymo. According to Kurian, data which Google will collect will not be used within others fields of activity of search giant, such as advertizing.

In Renault hope that thanks to digital conversions which will be performed including with assistance of Google the car maker will cut down expenses on €2 billion.
Renault began large-scale digital transformation in a month after attraction of the credit in the amount of 5 billion euros under French guarantees states. The agreement is reached with banks BNP Paribas Credit Agricole HSBC France, Natixis and Societe Generale.[1]
