2021: Using the Business Cloud Service

Rusenergosbyt has made IT infrastructure catastrophic and simplified customer interaction with the help of MegaFon's Business Cloud service, implemented in a technological partnership with Mail.ru Cloud Solutions, which the latter announced on July 19, 2021. Cloud solutions made it possible to launch a reliable socially significant digital service.

As of July 2021, RUSENERGOSBYT supplies electricity to 60 regions of Russia - from St. Petersburg to the Far East, including the largest infrastructure and industrial enterprises. Failure of IT systems can cause problems for hundreds of thousands of consumers. For example, invoicing electricity incorrectly may result in additional costs that are critical to the family budget. Previously, the entire IT infrastructure of Rusenergosbyt was located in the same data center and in case of force majeure there were serious risks of loss of IT systems operability.

The company decided to create a backup site for the IT infrastructure. Choosing between renting an external data center and backing up in the cloud, Rusenergosbyt preferred the second option - so the IT department will get rid of the need to regularly update outdated equipment.

MegaFon's Business Cloud solution has been selected for this purpose. The company offered the best option in terms of time: the reserve site had to be deployed three months after the start of work. The technology partner of the project was the Mail.ru Cloud Solutions platform. The cloud solution will not only store up-to-date copies of data, but, if necessary, will completely replace the main infrastructure in a day.

No matter how well our data center is protected, it is impossible to fully insure against all possible problems, so we thought about how to additionally protect our IT systems, "says Vladimir Parnev, director of the IT department, Rusenergosbyta. - We considered the possibility of renting an external data center, but buying and maintaining backup equipment only in case of emergency is unprofitable. Therefore, we abandoned this idea in favor of the cloud. We studied the proposals of several providers and eventually settled on the best option for us in terms of quality, cost, terms of cooperation and timing of the project.

The second important task of the company was to launch an updated personal account for customers. There was not enough own capacity to create such a service. Purchasing equipment and creating additional infrastructure that meets the requirements for working with personal data is long and expensive. It is easier to get resources in the cloud, especially since the Mail.ru Cloud Solutions platform is certified in the second level of security according to the requirements of the FZ-152 and offers all the necessary services.

The use of ready-made platform solutions (PaaS) allowed the company to quickly launch a digital service for customers. Transmitting meter readings and paying bills has become much easier and more convenient. Now users do not need to call Rusenergosbyt or visit the bank: all relations with the electricity supplier were reduced to several clicks in their personal account. The quality of service and the speed of response to customer requests has improved.

Rusenergosbyt also plans to develop other IT products in the cloud, taking full advantage of PaaS.

In the future, it will be easier to expand the functionality of the customer's personal account and launch a mobile application.
