Ilim Group implements information system for scheduling and resource planning of investment projects

2021: Implementation of SAP PPM

Conteq announced on February 25, 2021 that together with Ai-Teko they completed a project to develop and implement an information system for calendar and resource planning of investment projects for Ilim Group. The system is designed to enable operational project planning and monitoring for all geographically distributed enterprises in the company.

In accordance with the Strategic Development Plan, Ilim has implemented the PDP (Project Delivery Process) methodology and completed the project to implement the SAP PPM (Project and Portfolio Management) module for project portfolio management, financial planning and investment project monitoring.

Ilim management has been tasked with developing and implementing a tool to ensure manageability and predictability in the design and implementation of projects at any time. The implementation of this task was the goal of the project, which started in 2019.

To implement the project, a working group was created, which included specialists from IT and project management services. After a detailed analysis of the market, Microsoft Project Server 2019 was chosen as the platform for solving the task.

The duration of the project was one and a half years. The geographical framework of the project included six cities: St. Petersburg, Ust-Ilimsk, Bratsk, Koryazhma, Dmitrov and Kommunar.

As a result of the project, an information system was created to solve the following problems:

  • Increase transparency in project management processes:

    Provision of a single interface to project schedules;
    • Accumulation of data on the development and implementation of projects for subsequent analysis and planning of projects based on the experience gained.

  • Improving the quality and efficiency of long-term, medium-term investment planning.
  • Ensuring continuous availability of operational information on the current status of investment projects implementation.
  • Create a consolidated analytical report on the project portfolio, to analyze the current status of project execution and make operational management decisions.

The key feature of the developed system was functionality:

  • Integration Microsoft Project SAP with PPM system, to ensure the integrity of project data in two systems: from the side of SAP PPM, the main financial information about projects is transferred to MS Project, and from the side of MS Project to SAP PPM - information on project dates;
  • Ability to monitor projects using the Mastered Volume Analysis (EVA) method, due to customized user interfaces and analytical reports;

The created information system is implemented and used by Ilim employees, ensures the manageability of investment projects, facilitates timely and high-quality planning and control over investment projects.
