Content

Sberbank implemented at the Russian schools the solution providing an opportunity is reliable and safe to pay school lunches in dining rooms and allowing parents to trace, how exactly their children spend money for a power supply.

Task

As well as many other educational institutions, schools are among clients of Sberbank. Today 80% of the Russian school students use cash payment at payment of school lunches, and the majority of the remained 20% make payment by bank cards. However both that and other payment method bears in itself some risks: cash can be spent by school students not to destination, and the bank card can be lost or be stolen. Therefore Sberbank offered schools more effective and safe payment method, having started for the first time in Russia service of payment of a power supply using biometric Palms technology.

"Children can lose or spend cash at discretion, and parents will not be able to monitor their action in any way. As a result as a method of authentication by Sberbank the technology of scanning of veins of a palm Fujitsu PalmSecure which became an important part of the reliable and cost-efficient solution for automation of payments implemented at schools was selected.

Solution

The technology is based on recognition of the drawing of veins of his palm, unique for each person, which does not change during life. The biometric sensor using infrared radiation reads out the drawing of veins of a palm, and the special optical system which is built in it transfers the received image to the digital code, applying the most reliable techniques of enciphering. Probability of false recognition for PalmSecure technology is only 0.00008%, and the probability of false failure – exclusively low indicator in 0.01%. Process of scanning happens for only several seconds and does not require contact between a palm of the school student and the payment device. For power supply payment the pupil needs to select a dish or to enter the amount of purchase on the terminal of a power supply and to bring a palm to the sensor which in seconds "learns" a palm, having verified it with the code which is earlier assigned for it. The amount for a power supply will automatically be charged off the personal account of the pupil. The same code is used as the identifier for the admission of the child in school / from school.

"On a test stage we installed the power supply payment terminals using PalmSecure sensors at two schools where they were tested by about five hundred pupils. Based on testing it became obvious that we find a fast and effective payment method of school lunches, – Yana Pavlova says. – Today a system was implemented at several tens schools and is used more than twenty six thousand pupils".

At one school process of start takes less than a month. On average each dining room weekly processes payments for the total amount about 200-250 thousand rubles.

Parents can easily recharge school students in the application and Sberbank Online Internet bank or cash in ATMs and terminals and also Sberbank branches.

Besides, in December, 2015 Sberbank first-ever gave to clients an opportunity "link" the bank card of any bank to the school student's palm. At payment using a palm money automatically and without the commission is charged off an account of the card of the parent.

Project Results

Using Ladoshki service Sberbank provides to thousands of school students a safe and reliable payment method of a school power supply. Considering this positive experience, Sberbank attentively studies possibilities of use of biometric technology in other spheres.
