2022: Launch of two VR simulators in rolling production

In December 2022, it became known that Cherepovets Metallurgical Plant (part of the Severstal Group) launched two new VR simulators in rolling production. Software complexes are designed to train couter operators and cold metal cutters.

One of the VR simulators is designed to train employees serving a modern line of polymer metal coatings. In virtual reality, you can work out the process of replacing paint and the applying roller, as well as behavior in emergency situations.

The second simulator, Cold Metal Cutter, is aimed at working out such operations as transshipment before replacing disc knives, metal packaging and compliance with safety rules when operating the cutting unit, in particular, the requirements of the birching system, "said Evgeny Vinogradov, CEO of Severstal Russian Steel and resource assets.

Severstal has previously started using VR in employee training. This technology allows you to master and refine the implementation of complex technological operations, bypassing the risks associated with existing production, the company emphasized.

The new VR simulators have supplemented the Engineering educational space, which is also a training platform for participants in the Severstal-Infocom federal project.

Five programs are available for VR training in rolling production, which were developed by Severstal Infocom together with rolling production employees. A realistic virtual learning environment allows students to get acquainted with the mill and its work long before the start of their duties. The VR space in Engineerium fully coincides with the situation of the real workshop, which ensures an applied orientation and high accuracy of mastering operations, the press service of Severstal added^[1]
