2021: Polarion Requirements Selection

Royal Dutch Shell selected POPolarion Requirements, developed by Siemens Digital Manufacturing, as the main tool for managing the flow of requirements in Shell's global capital construction ecosystem. This became known on April 21, 2021.

Thus, Shell expands the use of Polarion and brings it to a different level - the Siemens solution will accelerate the development of the digital enterprise and more effectively switch from "paper" processes to work with a focus on data. In addition, it will increase the productivity of digital projects and complex requirements throughout Shell's supply chain.

As of April 2021, Shell uses Polarion (a tool in the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio that combines software and services) to ensure high efficiency and transparency of interaction between project development groups. The software combines Shell design commands through system design methods. This facilitates the rapid and efficient collection, development, approval, and audit of complex system requirements throughout the life cycle of the project.

Every year Shell invests billions of dollars in capital projects, following the goals of switching to alternative sources and protecting the climate, in particular, striving to achieve zero emissions from electricity production by 2050. To do this, we need reliable partners. That is why we are working with Siemens to create a well-thought-out comprehensive innovation solution for requirements, "comments James Haug, Chief System Design Officer. - Polarion requirements software is the key to improving our digital enterprise. As Polarion is standardized and implemented globally, we expect greater efficiency and lower costs both at the company level and across the entire internal supply chain and in project ecosystems.

Siemens and Shell worked together to configure the Polarion solution to ensure that the group's digital transformation goals were achieved as soon as possible. The partner strategy meant transforming enterprise specifications into data using Polarion, which then automatically generates reports and other documents. As a result, information related to standards and requirements has become more accessible, and data can be changed in real time through a convenient interface. This improves the efficiency of workflows throughout the life cycle of the project. During the first year of Polarion, Shell quickly implemented this solution on numerous projects around the world.

We are pleased to help one of the world's energy companies develop and implement a digital enterprise based on demand management, coordination of related data, as well as other important initiatives, "says John Nixon, senior director of energy and utility solutions at Siemens Digital Manufacturing Management Software Division. - The Polarion solution provides a unified approach to requirements management, taking into account all development processes and improves interaction between project teams. All of this enables Shell and its supply chain partners to lower total cost of ownership, improve compliance, and accelerate return on assets.
