2021: Introduction of Professor Holographic Image

Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO introduces a holographic image of a professor, which can be located anywhere in the world, projected into full growth on a wall in an audience where students and another professor work at that time. This was announced on March 26, 2021 by the press service of Skolkovo.

Technology is becoming an effective means of delivering content and holding listeners' attention. Physical presence no longer plays the same role if the professor appears before students in the "full body" format, remaining in another city or country.

Throughout the year of pandemic constraints and before, we experimented a lot with hybrid learning formats that combine real and virtual spaces. At first, it seemed that with the help of digital technologies it was impossible to repeat the convenience of the classic format of work in the lecture hall. But the solution was found - it turned out that if the professor in the "home studio" in front of the video camera stands full height, then after processing the video, you can project his image onto the wall of the School's audience as if it were a full-fledged holographic projection. The effect of presence in this case is much stronger than in the case of the classic "talking head in the TV." The projection becomes a window in the continuation of the lecture hall behind the wall, but de facto - already in the studio of a professor in another country, "said Anatoly Stoyanovsky, director of digital transformation and technological innovation at SKOLKOVO.

According to him, the School will actively improve this educational experience, collecting feedback from students.

We have already begun to conduct pilot lectures in this format. The first were held on March 25 at the EMBA program. There are still many tasks to be solved so that the involvement of all participants is maximum, but the effect is already obvious, "explained Anatoly Stoyanovsky.

He also added that the standard anti-crisis format, which educational organizations around the world began to use in the face of pandemic restrictions, cannot be called effective.

When a screen is simply installed in the audience, in which a professor speaks through Zoom, sitting in front of his laptop from home, contact with the audience is poor, feedback is almost absent, energy is lost. From the very beginning, we did not like this most simple and common solution. The solution that we have developed in the process of experiments is optimal for use in everyday mode. And there are many ideas for the development of such a format, especially for the joint work of a professor in an audience with a remote one, "said the director of digital transformation and technological innovation of the SKOLKOVO business school.
