On June 28, 2010, at South Ural State University (SUSU), RSK SKIF and Intel demonstrated the operation of the SKIF-Aurora SUSU supercomputer with a peak performance of 24 Tflops (1 TFLOPS - one trillion operations with floating point numbers per second).
Decision
RSK SKIF, with the support of Intel, built the SKIF-Aurora SUSU supercomputer on the SKIF-Aurora technological development platform and the Tornado RSK cooling technology.
Results
At the preliminary testing stage, the SKIF-Aurora SUSU supercomputer:
- entered the list of Tor50 and immediately took eighth place among the 50 most powerful CIS supercomputers according to the new, 12th edition of the rating;
- showed high computational efficiency on real industrial tasks solved on the basis of the SUSU supercomputer center, demonstrating more than three times an increase in performance on a number of tasks compared to the previous SKIF Ural cluster;
- in April 2010, it was possible to use 6-core Intel Xeon 5600 series processors in the SKIF-Aurora platform, which made it possible to increase system performance in the same design by 1.7 times.
2022: Artificial intelligence created in Chelyabinsk to improve the quality of ultra-high-strength steel welding
In Chelyabinsk, an artificial intelligence was created that will increase the quality of ultra-high-strength steel welding. We are talking about the project of a scientist from South Ural State University Zhao Dawei, who received a grant to implement his idea. Read more here.
2012
The SKIF-Aurora SUSU supercomputer, installed in the center of South Ural State University, for the second time in a row became the most energy efficient Russian HPC system according to the new edition of the Green500 rating for June 2012, taking 158th place.
It currently has a peak performance of 117 TFLOPS and is based on the highest performing models of Intel Xeon Kh5680 processors in 2010 with a clock speed of 3.33 GHz and a heat output of 130 W, and without the use of graphics accelerators.
Opinion
"The best confirmation of the success of our work is that the most powerful supercomputer complex produced by RSK in the new version of the Green500 rating was again recognized as the most energy efficient HPC system in Russia and de facto in the CIS. Undoubtedly, the innovative energy-efficient architecture "RSK Tornado," developed by our specialists, made a very great contribution to this success, on the basis of which most of the computing nodes of the supercomputer in SUSU were built, "said Alexey Shmelev, executive director of the RSK group of companies.
