Starbucks implements Microsoft's blockchain solution for control of coffee production

On May 6, 2019 Microsoft announced implementation of the solution blockchain in Starbucks. Thanks to Microsoft Azure Blockchain technology the American network of coffee shops will be able to monitor more effectively production and supply of coffee. Starbucks wants that each client could know from what country brought grains for its drink. 

In mobile application of Starbucks there will be an option which will allow clients to obtain information on coffee from the pack purchased by them: where it was grown up as the company supports farmers in this region where and when grains were fried , etc.

The company begins to test Microsoft Azure Blockchain for tracking in real time of coffee from regions of Costa Rica, Colombia and Rwanda.

Starbucks implements a solution blockchain of Microsoft for production control of coffee

It is supposed that the blockchain will open new financial opportunities for the farmers who are growing up coffee beans in domestic market. They will be able to know in what country there were coffee beans which are grown up by them. In 2018 Starbucks bought grains approximately from 380 thousand coffee farms worldwide.

The company will also share information on how it supports producers of coffee in the application. Starbucks is going to open source codes of the blockchain project.

Starbucks actively implements developments of Microsoft. So, the network of coffee shops uses technology of training with a reinforcement (reinforcement learning) based on a cloud platform of Microsoft Azure for formation of the personalized recommendations of food and drinks for more users of mobile application of Starbucks Rewards. For example, if the visitor constantly orders drinks and food in which there is no milk, the platform will draw conclusions on his preferences and will offer it products, this ingredient is not in which.[1]
