Rosatom ordered research on quantum computing for 7.73 billion rubles

Customers: Rosatom

Moscow; Power

Project date: 2021/10
Project's budget: 7.73 billion руб.

In early October 2021, it became known about the tender announced by Rosatom for large-scale scientific research in the field of quantum computing. For the implementation of this project, the state corporation is ready to pay 7.73 billion rubles.

As explained in Rosatom, the project executor will have to conduct a wide range of fundamental studies and studies covering all areas of priority technologies provided for by the roadmap, develop technical solutions for creating quantum processors and quantum simulators based on various technological platforms (superconductors, neutral atoms, ions in traps, photonic chips).

In addition, the winner of the tender will need to study the possibilities of scaling quantum processors, develop technical solutions for creating new types of physical implementation of qubits and develop a cloud platform for quantum computing.

The procurement documentation indicates the mandatory achievement of the targets specified in individual paragraphs of the roadmap. For example, the number of qubits in a quantum processor based on superconductors should reach 30 by 2024, and 100 in processors based on neutral atoms, photon chips or ions in traps. By the same time, the minimum accuracy of two-bit operations should be 0.97, although for processors based on ions in traps and photon chips, the target for 2024 is higher - 0.99.

According to TASS, by October 2021, Russia is among the 17 technologically developed countries officially approved by the quantum strategy. The roadmap for the development of the high-tech area "Quantum Computing" was developed by Rosatom in accordance with agreements of intent for the development of certain high-tech areas.[1]
