Smart CCTV cameras in Moscow have the ability to automatically recognize forgotten and lost objects in public places. The AI-based system will identify unattended items in transport infrastructure, park areas and railway stations, followed by a return to owners. This became known in June 2025.
The technology solution was developed by NtechLab, a technology partner of a state-owned corporation. The video analysis system is able to identify bags, boxes and other items ranging in size from 20×20 centimeters in images from surveillance cameras.
Artificial intelligence is trained to distinguish precisely lost or forgotten things - suitcases, backpacks, bags, clutches, wallets - from items that are temporarily at a distance from the owners. The algorithm determines the status of an object by the time it is unaccompanied by a person.
Time parameters for classifying an item as lost will vary depending on the location type. The system takes into account the specifics of city parks, airports, railway stations and metro stations when determining the criteria for identifying abandoned items.
The video analytics platform integrates with already functioning city surveillance cameras as part of the Find Face Multi product from the same developer. The complex has proven itself to be accurate in identifying faces, silhouettes and road transport in various countries of the world.
NtechLab CEO Alexei Palamarchuk noted that the neural network was specially trained to recognize objects to help thousands of people who forget personal belongings in public places. The leader pointed to the solution to two main problems - simplifying the search process and reducing the time to detect lost items.[1]
