At the end of February 2021, it became known about the order of Rostelecom for the production of telecommunications towers of a new generation. In this equipment, cellular communications will be combined with lighting and advertising.

According to Vedomosti, a contract for the construction of towers for 900 million rubles was posted on the Rostelecom portal. Under the terms of the contract, the contractor will have to implement the development and production of multifunctional supports with radio communications, video surveillance, lighting and Wi-Fi networks. Work is planned to be completed by the end of 2023. Rostelecom will execute this project from a specific customer, a company representative explained to the publication without giving the name of the customer.

The advantage of the new development at Rostelecom was called the fact that an antenna is built into the support housing, to which you can connect the equipment of several mobile operators at once. Such designs are easier to upgrade, which is especially important in connection with the prospect of introducing 5G equipment, the company explained. The equipment will have to correspond to a certain design agreed with Rostelecom, the company added.

In the strategic future, Rostelecom plans to become an infrastructure operator for operators and provide such turnkey solutions, "said a representative of the state operator.[1]

Based on the description of the purchase, this product is not very different from those already offered by companies such as Russian Towers, Vertical and Service Telecom, says Anton Shulga, partner and head of the Deloitte technology and media group in the CIS. Among the new solutions, the expert noted advertising designs: existing players are not interested in such technologies, since this is not their business, in addition, the strong wind load on the supports can increase significantly.

According to Deloitte experts, the cost of one design is usually 1-1.5 million rubles. Perhaps Rostelecom decided in this way to develop business based on the infrastructure of T2 RTK Holding (formerly Tele2 Russia AB, Tele2, he added.
