The SearchInform company announced that the Ingate company specializing in rendering services of search advertizing of premium level during clarification of details of the internal incident connected with attempt of unauthorized use of information which is a trade secret applied the solution "Circuit of Information Security of SearchInform".
The Chief information security officer of Ingate Manannikov Dmitry told about an incident: "In the middle of June the unknown sent to participants of the market of search advertizing the offer on acquisition of information belonging to the company. In the letter which the insider sent to competitors he suggested to purchase techniques of personnel training (sales-managers) in Ingate company. These techniques developed by specialists of the company showed the efficiency and therefore would be valuable to competitors. However, competitors of the company asked explanations for Ingate, having received this letter. For protection of the rights and investigation of crime the company addressed to law enforcement agencies. During verification of the message about crime of economic safety by Management on the city of Moscow it was established that the sales manager who after the employment left in only four days was the malefactor. The Circuit of Information Security of SearchInform program provided substantial assistance in protection of interests of Ingate company".
As the CEO of SearchInform company Matveev Lev noted, "the case with Ingate company shows efficiency of the means offered by us for control of information flows. Insiders should bear just deserts, however in most the companies where information security systems are not installed, insiders can act for months, yielding to employers enormous losses. I hope that this incident will show all how important protection of the organization against information threats is".
Legal effect was taken by a sentence of Simonovsky district court of Moscow of August 3, 2012 concerning the 28-year-old resident of Moscow Nikita Palkin. He is found guilty of commission of the crimes provided by Part 1 of Article 272 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal access to the computer information protected by the law), Part 3 of Article 183 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (collecting of the data which are a trade secret by stealing of documents, from mercenary interest).
The court agreed with the state prosecutor and found Palkin guilty of commission of the specified crimes, having imposed on set of the committed crimes final fine in the amount of 380 thousand rubles in income of the state with prohibition to hold the positions connected with access to information protected by the law for a period of 3 years.
Some details of an incident were disclosed by CNews the Chief information security officer of Ingate Morozov Alexey: "In the middle of June, 2011 our competitors began to receive letters with the offer to purchase the techniques of personnel training (sales-managers) applied in Ingate. The danger to our company was that these techniques were developed by own specialists and by then already showed the efficiency, and therefore were very interesting to competitors. But before addressing to law enforcement agencies, it was decided to make internal investigation. Within it 'The circuit of information security of SearchInform' which allowed to narrow a circle of suspects of leak practically to one person was also used. Using HTTPSniffer — the module of the HTTP traffic which is responsible for the analysis — it was succeeded to reveal suspicious activity. Further it was necessary only to set who that day worked from under this address. After that we were sure of the happened leak and contacted police".
The malefactor was caught red-handed during "control purchase" by the staff of Management of economic safety on the city of Moscow. Nikita Palkin estimated Ingate "secrets" at 50 thousand rubles.
As the CEO of SearchInform company Lev Matveev noted, "not always insiders manage to be involved to the answer. However case of Ingate showed that it is possible to do it not only, but also it is necessary. When using the DLP systems of case seldom come to court, but not because it is impossible and because most often both parties prefer to settle the conflict to 'not return point'. I hope, the successful completion of this trial will show to all companies that DLP systems really play an important role in fight against the insider".
